This the the Jungle Gym we just built...
It should be noted that this Jungle Gym was built by Marc and his friends,
and it took approximately 40 hours for both structures combined.
The Jungle Gym weighs approximately 600 pounds built, and is anchored
in the ground by 18" wood spikes in 7 locations. That being said...
We started building the Gym on Wednesday. We were able to get
most of
the structure built (except for the slide and canopy) by Saturday.
On thursday,
my neighbor (you can see his house in the background) remarked to me
on how large it was (something along the lines of "wow, that's like
the
Taj Mahal"). Also note that he has a slightly smaller (about
3' shorter)
gym in his yard.
Anyway, he approached me on Saturday acting kind of sheepish and says
something along the lines of "Wow, that is really big..." and goes
on to
say that he feels that his privacy is being invaded and it's an eyesore...
Basically, he almost asks me outright to take it down. But seeing
as it's
very heavy and anchored to the ground he wants to find some sort
of "compromise"...
His argument is that we can stand on the Gym and see into his backyard/pool
(which he just had installed, by the way). Never mind that we
can see even better
into his yard from our upstairs windows... but I digress... He
wants to put a
tree in his yard directly in front of the gym, which I have no problem
with
(obviously, it's his property, and we could care less what he puts
on it). He also
wants ME to install a tree between the Gym and the fence, along the
diagonal
overlooking his pool. Note that he wants me to have a tree planted
on my
property and pay for it myself, because I built a jungle Gym for my
daughters
on MY property...
Now all things being said, I don't want to have a horrible relationship
with
my neighbor, so I agreed to the tree, and asked him to find a set which
we
could purchase together (sort of like wedding rings...). At this
time, it's been
three weeks, and he still hasn't remarked on it again, so maybe we're
out
of the woods.
So that's the Tale of the Jungle Gym. Be careful who you move
next door to...
